Arrive five minutes early. It gives your dog a chance to sniff around and settle before the camera comes out. A dog who has had a look at the place photographs better than one who has just been carried in.

Don’t bathe them that morning. Freshly washed coats photograph flat and fluffy in the wrong way. A quick brush the night before is ideal.

Bring their favourite toy if they have a strong preference, and tell us about food allergies so we don’t hand them something they can’t have.

Wear solid colours if you’d like to be in a few frames. You should — the photos with people in them are always the ones that end up on the wall.

Tell us if your dog is nervous, reactive, deaf or elderly. There’s a box for it in the booking form. We’ll put you in a quiet slot and take it at their pace. It is never a problem and it never costs extra.

Outdoor markets and the heat

Queensland summer is not kind to dogs on bitumen. At outdoor markets we shoot hard in the first few hours and wind down as it warms up. If your dog is dark-coated, or flat-faced like a pug, frenchie or bulldog, please book an early slot — and if it’s a genuinely hot day we may ask to reschedule you. We’d rather lose the booking than put a dog through it.
